The Gentleness / Approach of God (Psalms 18:35)

In our latest sermon, we reflect on the profound significance of understanding the “Gentleness and Approach of God”, which is anchored in Psalms 18:35: “You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand has held me up, Your gentleness has made me great.”

The message emphasises the significance of recognizing that God’s approach – His way of doing things– aligns with His speed. The essence of speed, at every juncture, is to reach an expected end.

The story of David in 1 Samuel 30 highlights this perfectly. Faced with the devastating loss of his family and possessions at the hands of the Amalekites, David, in his profound distress, chose to inquire of the Lord and align himself with God’s approach. In doing so, he received not only full restoration of all he lost, but an abundance that surpassed his initial expectations.

It is crucial to understand that the approach of God will not always appear pleasing. Acts 9:10-16 and Philippians 1:12 illustrate that God’s approach may not align with our desires, yet it yields the right results in His perfect timing.

Examining Luke 6:12-16, we see God’s unconventional choice of disciples and the remarkable global impact they go on to make (Mark 16:15) This highlights the necessity of embracing God’s approach in our lives and ministries.

The sermon underscores the importance of remaining connected to God’s approach, even when it seems challenging or unconventional. Throughout the Bible, those who aligned with God’s approach encountered profound and transformative experiences.

As we continue to explore and apply the principles of God’s gentleness and approach, let us embrace His speed in all facets of our lives, ministries, and outreach endeavours. Let us steadfastly commit to serving God’s purpose, trusting that His approach always leads to fulfilment and abundance.

Remain connected, keep growing, and steadfastly embrace the speed and approach of our loving God.
